Who We Are

About Me

Hey all! I’m Mark, the creator of Bass Thumb Fishing. I’m somewhere between an amateur and avid fisherman and don’t claim to know it all. If I had to give it a term, I’d be a weekend warrior fisherman (Damn my 9-5). Outside of fishing, I love to share my knowledge and teach people. That is what I plan to do in this space, share knowledge on fishing! I hope that beginners and experts will be able to learn something new here.

As the name suggests, the info predominantly will be regarding bass fishing. However, living in the northeast United States, specifically Massachusetts allows a variety of species to be caught. Salt-water fishing is also something I enjoy and will most likely be a reoccurring topic on this site. Stripers are bass, right?! Jokes aside, ill be covering anything and everything fishing wise. I hope you enjoy the site and info! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me directly!

What is Bass Thumb?

“Bass Thumb” marks a good day on the water! Why? Its only achievable by a good day of bass catching! So what is it?

Bass have tiny teeth that line their lower jaw, think low grit sand paper. When you are pulling them in, as you lip their lower jaw, they rub against the inside of your thumb. The combination of the sand paper like teeth and your wet thumb causes the skin to get torn up. Thus creating bass thumb. Is it painful? Not really, and its a good way to prove any fish story to your buddies!

Common species that you may get bass thumb from would be most species of bass, including Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass and Stripped Bass.
